Meeting Thursday

The next meeting of the Community Advisory Committee is Thursday March 22, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in San Pedro.

The meeting should begin at 6:00 PM. The committee will again work with the Planning Department.

As always, public comment will be welcome at some point during the meeting. At the last meeting there were public comment opportunities both towards the beginning of the meeting and then again towards the end of the meeting. Persons wishing to address the Committee need to fill out speakers' cards that will be available.

I do not have information about the former facilitator or any future facilitator for the group, that I am willing to post on this blog.

Great letter to the editor in today's Breeze. So, it appears at this time, that Bisno has bought the mayor of Lomita. I hope the mayor has the integrity to fully answer the questions the letter writer asked.

And, of course, the letter writer is right -- despite Bisno's bogus poll -- there is GREAT opposition to this developer's massive project.

I know most people here hate even the thought of Ponte Vista, but perhaps you should take a deep breath before you go spouting off about the "great letter" in the Breeze. If you take the time to read it, it's obvious the writer doesn't have a clue about any of the project details. She states Bisno is from Orange County, that the area is zoned for only 230 homes, etc. Your zeal to oppose Ponte Vista and embrace this writer makes you out to be as big a fool as she is.

At least get the facts correct. Otherwise you make it that much more difficult for those of us who want to see some reasonable compromise built.

Anonymous 12:13 PM,

There have been letters to the editor by both supporters and folks opposed to construction of 2,300 homes at Ponte Vista that have contained errors that I attempted to correct on this blog.

It seems there are many folks who do not know the facts as you and I might know them.

When suppporters regularly address the CAC, they mention they want homes that are "affordable". It is extremely unfortunate that too many of those speakers have no real idea what "affordable" means or what the prices of any housing at Ponte Vista might be.

It does take a lot of examination to learn enough facts about the project to be able to write letters that are truly accurate, but there are not enough members of our community who have enough real facts, so it seems they use rumors and guesswork during their writing.

If you feel strongly about the errors in the letter. perhaps you should use your knowledge to inform us all on the truth about the current proposal at Ponte Vista so that others may not make errors when writing about the project.

I actually wish you or some other person, other than me. would include the "facts" about the project.

BUT WAIT!!! I will use the "facts" as written by Mr. Bisno himself in the description of the project that was presented to respondants of the telephone survey.

The following is the actual descriptive used in the survey, with the first descriptive written by Mr. Bisno himself, at least he claimed he was the author of the sentence.

"The project would have 2,300 new homes, with a mix of single-family housing, condominiums and town homes affordable to middle-income families and first-time homebuyers."

Anonymous 12:13, where are the "single-family housing" going to be if not in the "condominiums and town homes"?

The correct answer is, nowhere. There have been, are not now, and according to Mr. Bisno himself, never going to be "single-family housing" apart from the podium style buildings shown on the drawings for Ponte Vista.

During the public readout of the survey, not only did the pollster acknowledge this "error", but when questioned further, Mr. Bisno acknowledged that HE created this very sentence of description used in the survey.

Now to everyone out there, Mr. Bisno has designated 20 lots for the purposes of the building of residential units at Ponte Vista.
Since he has done that, and since the area is currently zoned R1 and OS1, there are some lawyer-type folks who contend that he can built 20 single-family, detached houses at Ponte Vista.

But I think that is a stretch, so I both anonymous 12:13 and I would have to agree, after reading the Draft EIR, that, if the zoning is not changed, Mr. Bisno can build up to 429 single-family, detached residences at Ponte Vista, not 230, not 500, or any other number higher than about 429.

Oh, anonymous 12:13, if you would like to debate the "facts" about Ponte Vista, how about giving me an opportunity to debate them with you. You appear to be someone who cherishes facts, so let's see who really knows them.

But I suspect you probably work for Bisno Development so sometimes, "facts" can be distorted to whatever you want them to be.

Congrats on your transparent weak spin. Ok, the OC and 230 stuff is wrong, but you conveniently don't mention anything about if Bisno is one of the Lomita mayor's clients. Hmmm. If the letter writer is wrong about that, you have a point and I retract the "great" adjective. If not, the mayor should answer her questions and you sound about as credible as that recent "poll."

I'm all for compromise, but the trust level with this developer is low and the opposition to this project high in the community (at least from those who haven't received checks or a dinner from him).

further comment from anonymous 12:13

I did not comment about the mayor having Bisno as a client because I have no information about the accuracy of this allegation.

however, what ticks me off is people coming late to the party and sounding off when they haven't done their homework. it keeps pulling the discussion back to the beginning, resulting in no forward progress. just reading highlights of THIS blog would have made the errors in the letter patently obvious.
