It's a Runoff!

The election for seat number 7 to the Los Angeles Unified School District's Board of Education was held on March 6, 2007 and there will be a runoff in May for the top two vote recipients.

Dr. Richard Vladovic garnered the most number of votes, but they were not enough to stave off a runoff with Mr. Neal Kleiner for the seat being vacated by Mike Lansing.

Why, might you ask, would this have any importance to any discussion about Ponte Vista?

Good question, and I hope I can give you good answers.

Dr. Vladovic is qualified for the seat based on his career as an educator and administrator in both the L.A.U.S.D. and his prior district where he served as superintendent.

Mr. Kleiner is qualified for the seat based on his career as an educator and administrator in the L.A.U.S.D., where he served as Principal of John Muir Middle School.

But there are differences in policy, tactics, and campaign financing between the two candidates.

Dr. Vladovic is one of the three candidates from the various numbered seats to the Board of Education who have received large donations from Mayor Antonio Villaraigossa. The Mayor is attempting to "take over" the school district and he seems to be trying to "pad" the board with like-minded members who want more of the Mayor's input into our school system.

Mr. Kleiner rejects the Mayor's attempting to add yet another layer of bureaucracy which none of us can pay for and he is against the Mayor's influence on the board and the L.A.U.S.D.

Dr. Vladovic sat down with Bob Bisno to talk about the doctor's campaign. Mr. Bisno told folks about the meeting during a dinner meeting of the Ponte Vista Board of Adviser's dinner and meeting I was invited to be a guest at. Mr. Bisno said that he would support Dr. Vladovic's campaign and asked the assembly to consider supporting Dr. Vladovic, as well.

When asked during a candidates' forum whether Mr. Kleiner had taken campaign contributions from Mr. Bisno, Neal said "No Bisno", meaning that he did not and would not take contributions from Mr. Bisno or his organization.

Both Dr. Vladovic and Mr. Kleiner agreed that a 2,025 seat senior high school should not be built at Ponte Vista. Neal suggested that a high school for freshmen could be built at Angels Gate to help with overcrowding at San Pedro High School.

This blog endorsed the candidacy of Neal Kleiner for a seat on the L.A.U.S.D. Board of Education. This blog continues to endorse Mr. Kleiner and encourages everyone to consider and support Neil Kleiner.

So Beverly Hills Bob supports the mayor's puppet. All the more reason to vote for Kleiner. The mayor cannot be trusted and neither can this out of town developer, no matter how much his paid lackeys try to spin this.
