Donna Littlejohn's Article About Ponte Vista

Donna Littlejohn, a staff writer for The Daily Breeze has an interesting article in the Wednesday June 27 edition. For the next few days you can click on the link and read it for yourself.

I was surprised to read Mr. Jerry Gaines' new proposal count for 1,225 total units at Ponte Vista.

John Greenwood's "under 900" unit count is actually for a total of 893 units, which include 93-single-family, detached houses on R1 sized lots.

I am not surprised that the members of the committee are going to meet once again in a closed session. When I was a member of the committee we met once at Ms. Hahn's office, and had a short closed meeting on the night when a regular meeting was also held.

No decisions about recommendations were made during the two closed meetings I attended. It was nice to read in the article that no recommendations will be made at Thursday's closed door meeting.

At the two closed meetings I attended, there were no representatives from the Bisno organization and no other folks from L.A. City other than Ms. Hahn and Gordon Teuber. I expect that Thursday's meeting will just have the committee members, Gordon Teuber, and Victor Griego in attendance.

Will anyone on the CAC submit a plan that complies with the R-1 zoning?

Excellent comment Mellonhead!

The "minority report" is most likely to be the report calling for only R1 zoning at Ponte Vista, keeping the current zoning intact.

I used the words in quotes because I think, at this time, there are not 7 votes for R1 by committee members.

There have been only four members of the CAC who have stated publicly their strong belief that R1, keeping the current zoning, is the best possible result for OUR community.

I feel there are two members of the CAC who would like to see a larger density development than Jerry Gaines' 1,225-unit plan, or John Greenwood's 893-unit proposal.

That leaves seven members of the CAC looking at some kind of compromise proposal that would allow for something between 893 and possibly 1,500, with 1,225 now looking like a new frontrunner, as a possible recommendation.

Many, many supporters of R1, including me, believe that keeping the current zoning at Ponte Vista is the best result that should be achieved.

Bob has had two years to come up with a viable proposal. He has shown all of us disrespect, I feel, with his original plan and now this unreasonable plan for 1,950 units.

He seemingly thumbs his nose at folks who criticize his plans and many folks who he would call "supporters". Bob has provided evidence with his latest plans that he most probably will reject any recommendations coming from the CAC, in terms of a total number of units.

I am waiting for the CAC to recommend a number and then watch Bob try to be critical of it, and denounce it. He seems to think he knows more about OUR community that the thirteen members of the CAC, Ms. Janice Hahn, and the thinking of many thousands of residents of San Pedro who signed the R1 petition.

That type of arrogance from Bob is something OUR community can do without!

The zoning should and must remain R-1. These numbers of 893, 1225 are ridiculous. Hahn is still on record as supporting R-1, so I hope we don't cave and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Tell this greedy developer it's not OUR problem if he overpaid for the property. If he gets the zone change, WE LOSE and all this blogging, "neighborhoods R-1 stuff" has been a total waste of time.

We all most hold firm and fast to keep the current zoning at Ponte Vista.

There is no room to attempt to compromise with a developer who won't listen, learn, or respectfully deal with all members of OUR community.

He has had plenty of time to listen and learn and if he thinks a 350-unit reduction in the total number of units for his project means he "listened", perhaps his hearing aids had dead batteries.

Bob is using marketing tools, lobbyists, members of his community that simply will not understand what many of us already know, and attempts to buy favor throughout the area, to try and get a development that is too large for the area.

I know he will not listen to residents living just accross the street from his project site, as he has repeatedly demonstrated his disgust with folks who moved into "San Pedro" but who's homes now are part of R.P.V.

If he is not willing to listen to these folks, why do so many people still believe he will listen to them?

He could not have "listened" to the community, because the community never told him that 1,950 units was a beleiveable number. Even supporters of Bob's think that number is too high.

Bob continues to pay folks to go out and collect petition signatures during the week.

I wonder if he will have paid petition gatherers out collecting signatures at supermarkets if there is a strike. What would that really say about Bob and his defense of Unions?
