Mike Caccavalla, What Energy, What Service

This week I have decided to nominate a second deserving person to be thought of as someone who is more like John Olguin that most of us are.

Mike Caccavalla, Owner of Downtown Subs and More, Husband, Father, Son.

Mike Caccavalla is in service to others all year long. During the Summer, Mike shines so bright with his service to everything that goes on at Point Fermin Park.

Shakespeare by the Sea and Music by the Sea are great successes because of the volunteer service Mike performs for all of us.

Even though Mike owns a restaurant and could provide food for sale at the park, he enjoys having Beacon House set up their stand to provide Hot Dogs, Sausages and other food. That is truly a remarkable thing that Mike provides for all of us and the warm food provided by the fine folks from Beacon House warms many of us on the cooler evenings in June.

Mr. Caccavalla works year round on all sorts of projects that better all of our lives.

Mike was gracious in providing space at Point Fermin Park for the A Gathering of "The Crowd" and Friends Picnic that we have for alumni from S.P.H.S who attended in the early 1970's

Mike is a "newby" as far as San Pedrans go. We probably should all visit the East Coast to find where we can get at least some of the energy Mike uses in all his volunteer efforts.

I encourage everyone to visit Downtown Subs and More and his clothing store next door and buy lots of food and clothing. Mike, while not being a native of OUR community is a most revered member of OUR community.

Mike and I don't talk too much about the Ponte Vista development for obvious reasons. Joe Caccavalla is a member of the Advisory Board Bob has set us and Joe and I disagree with what we feel should be developed at the site. Mike and I don't need to talk about Ponte Vista. He is too darned engage with running his businesses, being a family man and volunteering countless hours of his valuable time that benefits all of us.

Joe Caccavalla, you and I may disagree on the Ponte Vista issues, but I know you are extremely proud of that fine son you have. And you should be. In raising Mike, you done good.

Mike Caccavalla will be seen normally at Point Fermin Park during the weekends of the early to mid summer. You may also see him at the 4th of July celebration at Cabrillo Beach.

Please, wherever you see Mike, give him a big thanks for all he does for all of us. I know he doesn't like all the attention to the services he performs, but he does appreciate the thanks and is very gracious in accepting what he rightfully deserves.

It looks like there are going to be quite a few folks who will need to share the be-more-like-John Olguin Award. For that, OUR community is blessed, honored, and almost worthy of the services provided to us by Mr. Gabriel Rivas, Mr. Bruce Horton, and Mr. Mike Caccavalla.
