I write this post almost in shock. It appears to have happened. I know many months ago I thought it could never have been accomplished by OUR community. I was so very wrong. I am sorry to have had any doubts, but it appears that OUR communtiy has banded together and achieved a first truly great goal.
Bruce Horton is making the final tabulations this evening and I await his announcement of the total number of signatures collected on the petitions supporting keeping the current zoning of R1 at Ponte Vista.
All indications now point to the fact that OVER 10,000 signatures have now been collected on the R1 petitions!
It is a wonderful step for OUR community and it is a great starting point to collect even more signatures with. On June 10, 2007 there were already 8,423 signatures on the R1 petitions. 8,236 names were submitted to Ms. Janice Hahn's office with two submissions of collected signatures. First, 3,096 signatures were given to Ms. Hahn's staff back in March when R Neighborhoods Are 1 was announced in public. On June 7, 5,140 more signatures were delivered to Ms. Hahn's office.
The work of keeping the Ponte Vista site with its current zoning is still just beginning and there is a long way to go. It probably will not get any easier as we all need to be concerned about OUR community's future and the future of our families and neighbors.

How to take the Chamber of Commerce endorsement (besides negatively)? Do you think it will influence the CAC's decision? Hahn's?
