Shame (Again) on Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council

Once again, the folks who try to conduct business at the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council have done some "playing around" and have caused me to write again about their Council and some of its very questionable doings.

It is not bad enough that at least five of the seven slides on their Web site are of scenery that is NOT within the boundaries of the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council (couldn't they find scenery worthy of showing of sights within Central, instead of Coastal.

Now they have seen fit to abandon the first amendment of the Constitution by erasing my post on their forum. I am a stakeholder as defined by their own rules and not only can I vote in their upcoming election, if I ever choose to run to any office on their Board, at this time, I am still qualified to do so.

I joined their forum which has a grand total of FOUR members and posted R Neighborhoods Are 1's recommendation for who should be elected to "at large" seats at their election, on July 10, 2007. I did suspect that the moderator would do something like the other fellow does on his blog, and sure enough, someone censored me and my post.

Might Mr. Joe Gatlin, a supporter of Bob Bisno's plans for Ponte Vista be the moderator of the forum, or is it one of his "henchmen" who seem to believe only their word deserves consideration, and like "Tom Field" believe only they know all the "truths" about things.

Shame, shame on Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council, again. I am quite sure there are many board members and other members who are fine upstanding, community-minded, caring individuals who don't like what Mr. Gatlin and his followers have done to that Council.

It took a "special" meeting of the Board to get their budget and Ponte Vista resolution passed because they have missed having quorums at some of their regular meeting times. Even when that updated their Web site, they apparently still can't do thing correctly.

Viewing cliffs, the Pacific Ocean, the Korean Bell, and some other sites on their Web site is fine and beautiful, but if you think those slides were taken within their boundaries, you would be mistaken. How about they take photos of the tall cranes adding population density to downtown, or some really nice pictures members of Central can really be proud of?

It is not very good that I have to keep harping on the differences between Central and the other two Neighborhood Councils, who seem to be receptive, and helpful to their membership, while it seems Central can't even provide photographs of things inside their own boundaries. What might that also suggest of their real interest in thing inside Central, when their own President is such a big supporter of a development that is not even in their area?

I'm not a Joe Gatlin fan and his incompetence is unbelievable, but maybe they deleted your post from their site because it may have been viewed as the council's endorsement of certain candidates for the election.

It is quite understandable and I would agree the none of the three Neighborhood Councils should get involved with each others elections. That is why you didn't see any endorsements on Central's and Coastal's sites for Northwest's election, and you won't see Northwest and Central making endorsements on their sites for Central's July 10 election.

My post, which was probably not read by more that three other people was concerned with endorsements of candidates by R Neighborhoods Are 1, and not by any Neighborhood Council.

The R1 groups has its own "Rudderless Steering Committee" which sits in place of a Board of Directors, and during its last meeting, created endorsements for candidates in both Northwest's election, and Coastal's upcoming election.

The Rudderless Steering Committee which acts on behalf of the R1 group endorsed Mr. Larry Mersman over Ms. Bonnie Easley for that particular seat on Northwest's Board. Ms. Bonnie Easley won reelction to that seat.

In the Forum Section of Central's new Web site, I posted the endorsements for Central's upcoming election for twelve "at-large" seats to their Board.

The endorsements are for:
Kara McCleod
Sue Castillo
John Delgado
Dan Paisley (sp?)
Phil Roberson
Jerry Scoville
Andrew Silber

This slate of candidates appears to be a group of folks who want to see the Board of Directors of the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council, get back to doing quality work for the community they represent. If you want to call it a "reform" group, or an "accountability" group, that would probably be correct. Those individuals seem to be willing to take the time and make the effort to correct some of the problems that Central has had, for several years now.

I wish those candidates R Neighborhoods Are 1 endorses, good luck and many of us hope they are successful in finding some cures to some of the ills at Central, including not finding enough interested members currently serving on the Board to actually conduct business in a timely basis, and with quorums at every meeting.

First, I want to personally thank the 344 individuals who took the time out of their busy schedule to cast a vote in the NWSPNC’s June 25 election. Congratulations to the six incumbents and newly elected members Mollie Abbatiello and Craig Goldfarb.

Second, I know Peck Park is not off limits to anyone, but before I cast my vote I observed Mr. Jerry Gaines and Mr. Joe Gatlin outside the polling place. I don’t recall observing anyother NWSPNC or CAC members there. Did Mr. Gatlin and Mr. Gaines have a stragey? If anyone knows, please let me know.

Correction: Strategy.

Thanks Anonymous 9:32 PM for you comments.

I doubt that Mr. Gaines and Mr. Gatlin had anything even remotely questionable going on when they were seen chatting.

Jerry Gaines, the CAC member has stated that his most recent proposal for Ponte Vista included a total of 1,225 units.

Joe Gatlin is the President of Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council, a Bob Bisno-Ponte Vista supporter and a former member of at least one of Bob's Boards of Advisors.

If you saw Mr. Gatlin and Mr. Gaines in discussions near the railing by the parking lot, they were very close to the limit where any poloticing could go on.

Mr. Gatlin was seen handing out pamphlets with his slate of candidates, while sitting in a chair under a tree. That area was off limits for doing what Mr. Gatlin was doing and he was asked to move by the Independent Election Administrator.

It was probably a good thing to witness Mr. Gatlin and Mr. Gaines talking. If they were talking about Ponte Vista, I am sure Mr. Gaines knows quite a bit more about the project than Mr. Gatlin does. I hope Mr. Gaines was giving Mr. Gatlin some instruction about the amount of traffic Bob's new plan would create on Western Avenue.

If the two gentlemen were talking about something else, I hope they were talking about how Central SPNC might work better with itself and other Neighborhood Councils.

I can find nothing wrong about Mr. Gatlin talking with Mr. Gaines.

Talked to Mr. Gatlin after I voted. I talked to both Mr. Gaines and Mr. Epperhart before and after voting and we all talked outside the boundary and we did not always talk about Northwest and/or the election that was taking place.

I also talked to Mr. Craig Goldfarb who was at least some distance from the limit area for campaigning. He was following the rules that Mr. Gatlin, also a member of the Board of Northwest, was seen not doing for part of the time.

After watching the Independent Election Administrator talk to Mr. Gatlin, he finally moved to a place where he could legally hand out his slate of candidates, something he had every right to do, outside the limit lines.

The photos you are referring to are only "placeholders." I talked to the person who is still in the process of rebuilding the website (so what you are now seeing is a work in progress); she just didn't have any nice photos of Central available. In fact, I was just recently walking around downtown taking some shots to send to her so we can have photos that are from the area. Give her a break, Mark. She's not a professional web developer and it's a volunteer effort. I know you can be reasonable. Yes, there are problems on the board right now that some of us are working to solve, as you know, but the photos? Come on, there's no larger meaning to be read there. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill. And don't be so divisive. Since when are people only restricted to opinions on "their" area of town? It's San Pedro, not Berlin.
